Three generations of one family have run a business at this address. The building hasn’t moved, the street hasn’t changed its name, and neither have we.
1945 — Roberts’ Grill
John Edward and George Roberts open a grill and steakhouse at 216 Virginia Avenue. Neon sign in the window, awning over the door.
1961 — Ned’s Counter
Home from the war, great-uncle Ned Roberts buys the business and becomes sole owner, serving Lake Country from behind that counter for decades.
Today — Roberts Market
Sarah Roberts reopens the doors. Same address, new chapter: fresh grab-n-go fare that keeps the legacy alive.

How we make it
Sandwiches, salads and snacks made fresh daily. Breads come from Strong Arm Baking Co. in Oxford, North Carolina. Every sauce, aioli and dressing is housemade. Every sandwich is served with a pickle spear — and every sandwich is named for a member of the Roberts family, which is either charming or confusing depending on how many of us you’ve met.
